Despacio spent the last two weeks in Paris at the 21st Conference of the Parties (
COP 21). We helped coordinate the Sustainable Low-Carbon Transport Partnership (
SLoCaT) booth in the Green Zone and the joint
FIA Foundation–
ITDP–
TRF booth in the Blue Zone. We provided visitors with general information about the work of SLoCaT and other organizations, as well as the central role of sustainable transport in mitigating climate change. Despacio also assisted at
Transport Day 2015, an important event which SLoCaT, the Bridging the Gap Initiative (BtG) and Michelin Challenge Bibendum (MCB) organized to give visibility to the transport sector in the fight against climate change. See the PPMC page for COP
daily reports and more information on
sustainable transport.
Carlosfelipe Pardo, Despacio’s Executive Director, presenting at the COP21
Carlosfelipe Pardo, Despacio’s executive director, gave three presentations during the COP. The first was «Promoting low-carbon transport,» a GIZ TRANSfer event at the German Pavillion. Pardo’s presentation focused on mitigation policies in Colombia and TRANSfer’s efforts to implement a NAMA for active transport and travel demand management.
He also presented at «Sustainable urban development through transit-oriented development.» The event was organized by the city of Tshwane, South Africa at the Transformative Actions Program (TAP) Pavillion. Pardo discussed the «Bogota 21» study and the importance of value capture and social inclusion within TOD projects. Finally, Pardo presented at «Transforming national ambition into local implementation,» an event at the Peru Pavillion about Latin American experiences with transport and mobility.

For Pardo, one of the most gratifying parts of the COP was the opportunity to explain Despacio’s philosophy and work to people from around the world.. And to give them Despacio stickers, obviously!
