Each year, the festival invites a different country to present its books and aspects of its culture.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.holandafilbo.com\/\">The Netherlands<\/a>\u00a0is this year&#8217;s invited country, bringing authors, architects, films, and bicycle products to Bogot\u00e1. Despacio will be at two of the festival&#8217;s bike-related events.<\/p>\n<h3>Cycling in the City: Bicycles and Urban Infrastructure<\/h3>\n<h4>Monday April 25th\u00a0&#8211;\u00a02:00 PM\/\u00a0Auditorio Alberto Lleras Camargo, Universidad de Los Andes<\/h4>\n<p>Dutch urbanist\u00a0Stefan Bendiks will present his new book &#8220;Bicycle Infrastructure,&#8221; which analyzes the role of urban infrastructure, looking particularly at Dutch experiences with bike infrastructure. Afterwards, Carlos Felipe Pardo will place the Dutch experience within the context of Colombia. The event is being organized by the Department of Architecture and Design and the Center for Interdisciplinary Development Studies (Cider) at the Universidad de los Andes. Various authors have discussed the bicycle, including\u00a0Marc Aug\u00e9\u00a0(French), Julio Cort\u00e1zar (Argentinan), Pablo Neruda (Chilean) and\u00a0Jon Day (British). Despacio used quotes from each of these authors in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/despacio.org\/en\/2016\/02\/22\/bicycle-infrastructure-guide-for-colombian-cities\/\">Bicycle Infrastructure Guide for Colombian Cities<\/a>\u00a0that it recently wrote for the Ministry of Transport. The talk will\u00a0discuss the possible meanings\u00a0of each of these quotes and their relevance for bike policies and bike use in cities more generally. In other words, it will aim to explain the importance of literature and philosophy in the creation of more sustainable, humane cities.
