Participants had to study road safety problems, public transit, bike inclusion and fines, using data from various sources. In total, the event had 52 participants in 21 work groups. Each group choose the topic that most interested them and worked from 7 AM to 7 PM to find a solution to chosen problem. At the end of the day, the judges selected the best proposals and gave an incentive to the three best overall.

The event’s results provide realistic solutions to the city’s current mobility problems. The best proposal dealt with the question “How to improve pedestrian safety?” The method involved dividing the city in 500-meter pixels (adjustable to other sizes) to analyze activity in each pixel. Using this information, the participant showed that in pixels with more public transit, road safety was better. The second place solution proposed a way to identify the stations and times with the most fare evasion in Transmilenio. The third place participants created an app to determine the actual frequency of the urban bus routes and better respond to demand.

For the full results of the Urban Hackathon, click here (web bulletin in Spanish).

Thank you to everyone who participated!

On November 7th, Despacio and the Bogota Chamber of Commerce held an Urban Hackathon to find solutions to the city’s mobility problems.
