The event was carried in conjunction with the Bogota Chamber of Commerce in their Chapinero office. The event began at 7 AM;\u00a0participants had around nine hours to analyze one of six mobility problems, using data from the Secretariat of Mobility, Transmilenio, the Chamber of Commerce, Bogota Como Vamos, Despacio, and other entities. The event had 51 participants working in 21 groups.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"hackaton todos2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/slowresearch\/22883278035\/in\/album-72157660212639208\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5631\/22883278035_f4455575a1_z.jpg\" alt=\"hackaton todos2\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>The six problems identified were:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Fines<\/li>\n<li>Bike inclusion in SITP and Transmilenio (the\u00a0urban bus and BRT systems)<\/li>\n<li>Fare evasion<\/li>\n<li>Transfer windows<\/li>\n<li>Road safety<\/li>\n<li>SITP operations (including Transmilenio)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The three best proposals were<\/strong>\u00a0(see their\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/despacio.org\/en\/2015\/11\/09\/urban-hackathon-presentations\/\">presentations here<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A\u00a0road safety visualization tool that shows\u00a0road incidents by pixel and a matrix indicating the main safety problem in each pixel.<\/li>\n<li>An analysis of fare evasion, indicating which Transmilenio trunk lines and stations witness the most fare evasion, and an estimate of the losses that result.<\/li>\n<li>An app that shows the different SITP and Transmilenio routes with real-time frequencies to better coordinate the flow of buses.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We learned a lot in our first Hackathon. First, a lot of people were interested, as evidenced by the large turnout on a Saturday morning. Participants were especially interested in road safety and fines, with some showing for example that fines in Bogota were mostly for parking violations, as opposed to infractions which pose a greater threat to road safety.\u00a0Second, the Hackathon&#8217;s participants came from a range of backgrounds and experiences, allowing a\u00a0broader and more interdisciplinary perspective. Finally, given that it was our first Hackathon, we know there is room for improvement. In particular, it would have been\u00a0good\u00a0to allow participants to share a video instead of slides, since many of them created interactive apps.<\/p>\n<p>We want to think all the participants for their interest and excitement, the Chamber of Commerce for their support, and all the entities that provided data.
