The rise of motorcycles in Bogot\u00e1, as in the rest of the country, has been remarkably\u00a0fast over the past decade, but measures to\u00a0deal with this phenomenon have not kept apace.\u00a0Although international experiences provide some insight and solutions, there is a lack of detailed knowledge on motorcycle users and their societal impacts (positive or negative). There has not been\u00a0much\u00a0discussion of\u00a0potential mechanisms to help understand the phenomenon, reduce its negative impacts and improve overall mobility. However, there have been a few studies recently\u00a0that describe\u00a0the phenomenon, allowing researchers to make concrete proposals to resolve these issues.<\/p>\n

\"Evento<\/a><\/p>\n

Given all of this, Despacio hosted the event “Motorcycles: threat or solution? on July 2, 2015 in the Luis Carlos\u00a0<\/strong>Gal\u00e1n Auditorium at the Javeriana Pontifical University.\u00a0<\/strong>This was also the launch event of CAF’s publication, “Motorcycles in Latin America:\u00a0profile of their use and impacts on mobility in five cities in the region”<\/a>. \u00a0<\/strong>There were also presentations of related studies and an expert panel at the end of the day. The event was held in cooperation with the Javeriana Pontifical University, the Bogot\u00e1 Chamber of Commerce and\u00a0CAF Latin American Development Bank.<\/p>\n
